Memorial Day and Labor Day bookend the summer. Since I started the summer with a photo essay post that went live on Memorial Day, it only makes sense to end the summer with another photo essay posting on Labor Day. Today I wanted to share some of the many fun and funny signs I’ve photographed on my adventures.

The Coffee and Wine Cliche

No doubt, you’ve heard versions of these various signs. Still, they made me smile so I wanted to include them. Cliche and all.

Old fashioned sign that reads, "Coffee keeps me busy until it's WINE time."
Some days this is true for me. Though I have coffee daily, wine is just once in a while.
A sign that reads, "In wine there is wisdom. In beer there is freedom. In water there is bacteria."
I found this one inside one of the tiny homes I walked through at the Tampa RV Supershow when I was still trying to figure out which RV to purchase.
Sign with a man holding a beer and a puppy. It reads, "It's not drinking alone if the dog's home."
Found this funny one in a hardware store of all places.
Sign that reads, "A day without coffee is like...Just kidding, I have no idea!"
Me neither.
Of course size matters. Nobody wants a small cup of coffee."
So true.

The Funny Ones

A throw pillow with a mermaid on one half and a message on the other half that reads, "There are a million fish in the sea but I'm a mermaid."
Found this laugh-out-loud one at a coffee shop in Troutdale, Oregon.
Two whale sculptures on the beach, chained off with a sign that reads, "Please keep off whales."
These whale sculptures were a find just off the boardwalk in Long Beach, Washington, a favorite walk of mine and Solstice’s during our time there. I don’t know what it was about this sign, but it cracked me up every time I saw it. I think it’s that you’d expect it to say Keep Off the Art. I just saw, “No whale riding.”
White sign with blue writing that reads, "Persons having currently active diarrhea or who have had active diarrhea within the previous 14 days shall not be allowed to enter the pool water."
I totally get why a pool would have this sign but it struck me as so funny. And my question was how do the monitor this. Ugh. I found this sign at the RV Resort in Desert Hot Springs.
White kitchen towel with a dog on it and it reads, "Leave me alone. I'm only speaking to my dog today."
As an introvert, I totally connected with this kitchen towel.
Typed sign on a white paper. The hours of operation are Monday-Saturday: 6:31ish - 4:29ish. Sunday: 7:02ish - 4:01ish.
Notice their hours of operation. This was a drive-up coffee hut on Long Beach Peninsula Washington. The note on the bottom says, “Unless there is an illness, injury, important children’s event, power outage, water main break, tsunami warning, earthquake, or other natural disaster or zombie apocalypse. ” The barista told me her boss kept bugging her to put up a sign for their hours and this is what she came up with.
A sign for directions to the bathroom. It reads, "Gentlemen to the left because women are always right." Has fingers pointing left and right for each restroom.
Maybe not a laugh out loud funny, but it caught my eye when I walked by it.
Sign that reads, "Exercise? I thought you said extra fries."
Loved this one.
Chalk board sign on the street that reads, "Husband day-care. Wine bar. Cigar bar. Micro beer on tap.
Found this gem on the street in Palm Springs. What a great way for a bar to advertising. I laughed when I read this one. Then really laughed when I walked around to read the other side of the board.
Chalk board sign on the street that reads, "Our beer is colder than your ex's heart."
The other side of the chalk board sign.

RV Park Signs

Sign inside an RV park that reads, "Caution Young and old folks at play. Give 'em a brake."
I thought this was cute. Did make me wonder where all the “young folks” were. But still.
Sign in an RV park that reads, "5 mph. An absolute must."
An Absolute Must.

Inspirational and Motivations Signs

Sign that reads, "Retired. Earned it. Living it. Loving it."
Though I don’t consider myself retired, I love the sentiment of this sign.
A sign that reads, "A positive attitude may not solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort."
While a positive attitude won’t solve your problems, in my experience it sure makes getting through the problems easier and, often, faster.
Sign that quotes Walt Disney, "If you can dream it, you can do it."
The guy was so right!
Sign across the nose of an RV. It reads, "The est thing to hold onto in life is each other." And Enter as stragners, leave as friends."
These signs I found on the front of a Class A motorhome. Phaeton is the brand of their rig. The lower sign I find to be very accurate of the RVing community.
Painted in white on a sidewalk, "If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be." Maya Angelou #OwnEveryMoment
This was painted on a sidewalk in Portland. There were two quotes by Maya Angelou but this one was my favorite.

A Perfect Supersize LIFE Sign

Sign that reads, Motto for Life: Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOOHOO! WHAT A RIDE!"
This sign was hanging in a restaurant. But it was hung high and it was really long so I couldn’t get a good photo of it. So, I recreated it here. But, isn’t it a perfect motto both for a Supersize LIFE?
