Harvest Hosts
I wrote about my adventures with Harvest Hosts in the spring. It’s an awesome option for a unique overnight experience. I’ve stayed mostly at wineries so far, but had a wonderful experience at a farm where I wok to sheep strolling by my RV. I still need to get to museums, breweries, distilleries, animal rescue sanctuaries, botanical gardens and other adventures. Use the link and you’ll get 15% off your membership!

Escapees / Xcapers
They are the largest and oldest RVing membership group in the country. Their mission is “to provide a total support network for all RVers.” When you join for $40, you get membership to both the Escapees and Xcapers communities. While everyone is part of the Excapees group, Xcapers is a subset that focuses on the needs of working-age RVers.
Benefits of membership includes discounts at their Rainbow RV parks (a couple months at one will cover the cost of the membership) and other support services (like mail forwarding, roadside assistance and healthcare solutions), educational resources, and community.
CityPASS
Have you heard of CityPASS? It is an awesome way to see the highlights of a city. Their tag line is: Iconic Spots. Significant Savings. Currently, the US cities where you can find a CityPASS are: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, NYC, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa Bay. Toronto Canada also offers a CityPASS. For example, if you are headed to Houston, Texas. You purchase a CityPASS and it’ll get you a ticket to 1) Space Center, 2) Downtown Aquarium, 3) Museum of Natural Science, 4) Zoo or Museum of Fine Arts, and 5) Kemah Boardwalk or Children’s Museum. Buying the tickets at each venue, you’d pay over $116. Buy through CityPASS and it is only $62. Once you use the first ticket (and you can use them in any order you wish), the pass is good for nine days to do the rest of the items. Each city offers different venues, the price (and the percentage savings) differs and the number of days to use the pass differs. So be sure to read the fine print. I haven’t used the CityPASS yet, but have heard so many good things that I feel confident including it here. But, I’ll tell you,I cannot wait to visit a city in the program so I can try it out.
Favorite Sneakers
About 15 years ago, I went into a specialty running store in Los Angeles. The person examined my foot, watched me walk, looked at the bottoms of the sneakers I was wearing and proclaimed, “You over pronate so you need a stability running shoe.” Even though I wasn’t a runner but a walker, he said it didn’t matter. He recommended I try a Brooks Ariel shoe. I loved them and have been going through two pairs a year ever since. Every once in a while I think it’s time to try a new shoe, but you know the old adage about not fixing what isn’t broken. The stability part means the heal is tight and hard, so I do need a shoe horn to slip them on (especially when they are new). Along with a custom orthotic for my high arch, these shoes make my ankles feel confident. (That said, the shoe cannot take away my clumsiness so even with fancy shoes and custom orthotics, I still end up on the ground sometimes. At least in Alaska, I could blame the snow and ice.)
